Quandary Reviewing Policy
No one can write a totally unbiased game review as reviews are, after all, only someone's opinion. So we have to admit right from the start. We are biased. Biased towards computer adventuring games with an abundance of things to do, challenges to meet, and places to visit. Although we make recommendations, our reviews are sufficiently detailed to give as much information as possible about a game. For the benefit of deaf and hard of hearing players most reviews indicate whether or not there are subtitles or aural puzzles.

Special Note: We don't check all the facts that might be presented in a game such as in historical games set in a 'real' time period, or games that may have quiz-type components or ancillary material such as mini encyclopaedias. We do point out factual errors if we are aware of them, but we simply don't have the time to check everything.

Each game is rated according to a 5 star system, with intermediary half stars for fine tuning. The stars are a quick guide to the merits of the game, not a substitute for the review. Reducing a game to a 10 point scale is a lot harder than you might think, so please take the time to read the full review. For more information on rating games and why you should read the review see Stars In Their Eyes.

The following reveals what the stars foretell:

5    Stars: Excellent game all round. You simply must play this!
4.5 Stars: Great game, just missed out on top marks. Highly recommended.
4    Stars: Very good game. Well worth playing. Recommended.
3.5 Stars: A good game with some strong features. Reviewer has some minor criticisms but still recommended.
3    Stars: Pretty good game with room for improvement. Recommended with minor reservations.
2.5 Stars: Average game. Playable but there are better examples around. Recommended for forgiving players.
2    Stars: Below average game. Not a lot going for it. Only for real fans of the developer or genre.
1.5 Stars: Well below average game. Pedestrian, dull. Play at your own risk.
1     Star: Poor game. Now you're getting desperate.
0.5  Star: Hopeless! Strictly for masochists.
